Not only do I resent the inventor of the lens flare, but my “to punch” list has expanded to include j.j. abrams who managed to make lens flare and 3D worse in the same fucking movie.

I wish migraines upon him.

Technically nobody ‘invented’ lens flares unless you mean the person who invented lenses, or lights, or the sun… but I think the person you are looking for is Steven Spielberg, who established in Close Encounters that lens flares = spaceships = awesome and now they are in all science fiction always.

Also sorry for my lens flares! :P

Outside of the shiny Star Trek photography, it is conventional wisdom that 3D and lens flares don’t mix, for a variety of reasons… basically since lens flares only exist inside a camera, they don’t exist in 3D space and so where do you put them when you convert to 3D? On the lens? At convergence? Nothing really works. 3D experts generally tell you to avoid them. So I don’t really see it becoming a trend.

But then I’m rather surprised that 3D is still happening so what do I know.

The first game I ever played through to the end was King’s Quest III: To Heir is Human, which I actually played on my grandmother’s old Kaypro computer. She loved adventure games. My grandmother got me into gaming, you guys.

This spawned a long love affair with Sierra Online… my favorites were the Quest for Glory series, which was like King’s Quest except it was an RPG with magic and swords and stuff.

We had a Sega Genesis when I was a kid, and I did really like Ecco and Sonic a lot, but I feel like the game that really got me into console gaming was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Then, just when I thought I had her, the station’s core went critical. I barely made it back to my ship in time. I watched the station from a distance. I never saw her leave. And when that station blew… there was nothing left bigger than a turian’s right nut. So, I went back to the diplomat to give him the good news and collect my pay. Decided sort of last minute that I was going, and I didn’t have anything new so I went as Bethany.

I forgot how much I like wearing this costume. The best thing is that little girls always want to take a picture with me, because it’s so sparkly and colorful and everything. One girl even took my staff and started casting spells on her dad. It was adorbs.

Also, that dragon egg the Dany cosplayer is holding was gorgeous up close and so appropriate for Easter :P

At the 11th hour (sort of literally), have a Captain Scarlett update! This is the costume sans the hat, wig, epaulette, belt, jewelry, leg, and boot—most of which was left at my place while Beth and I worked at our friend Bill’s. I realized that I haven’t actually shown off the COSTUME at all, so…preview for Saturday!

Beth’s costume is mostly still at my place as well, so no Sheriff preview—though I may insist on taking one as we power through that last stretch of work once we’re in Boston. I am damn proud of that coat, after all :)

Anyway, 9 AM flight tomorrow, so I’m heading home to pack and sleep as much as possible. As usual during convention weekends, I will be slow to respond to anything but tweets, so if you need to reach me at all, @SubitoAllegra is the way to do it! If you’re at PAX, PLEASE reach out—I’m always thrilled to meet people at conventions!

so i’ve decided to combine the two. here is her suggestion, verbatim:

Recently in the BSN forums David Gaider hinted about a transsexual character appearing Dragon Age and it sparked a awful amount of transphobia - to the point DG had to close the forum. He quoted in his closing post that his ‘faith in humanity has not been restored.’ As a cis person a lot of the comments were stomach turning to read – it must have been horrible for any transsexual fans to have to read them. I was wondering, as a suggestion, maybe we could have a Transsexual Support Week? I realize there is little to no transsexual characters in the game but maybe the point of the week would be to try and create a interesting non stereotypical backstory for Serendipity and create fanfic/fanart for her or write/draw about transsexual Hawkes and Wardens? We could submit the best fanart/fanfiction to DG’s tumblr and show him and any transsexual dragonage fans that the majority of the fandom are not prejudiced arseholes.

how does that sound? sound like fun? i certainly think so (but serendipity’s one of my favourites so i’m surely biased!).
